COMMERCIAL PACKAGED AIR CONDITIONING UNITS
Unlike split systems, package air conditioners have all their essential components housed in a single casing or ‘package’ - hence the name ‘package air conditioner’. This includes the compressor, condenser (which can be air-cooled or water-cooled), evaporator, filters and fans. These units are installed either on the roof or to the side of the property and connect via a duct that distributes the heated and cooled air inside.
Package Air Conditioners are recommended when there is limited space for an indoor unit and where a rooftop installation is preferred. Where split air conditioning systems are designed for individual rooms and central air conditioning systems are designed for loads in excess of 20 tonnes - packaged air conditioners are designed for any buildings that fit in between.
They’re often installed in commercial sites, where heating and cooling a large space is required - these include:
-
Office buildings
-
Factories
-
Warehouses
-
Schools
-
Hospitality buildings
-
Retail stores

Types of Packaged Air Conditioners
There are two types of package air conditioners: air-cooled and water-cooled condensers.
Water-cooled condensers are cooled by water and must have a constant supply of water to keep the air conditioner working sufficiently. These air conditioners are often installed inside buildings.
Air-cooled condensers are cooled by the atmospheric air and therefore are located outside, typically installed on rooftops. These units suck the air from outside and blow it onto the condenser coil. Air-cooled condensers are a more popular option out of the two because they don’t require as much maintenance as water-cooled condensers with the need to ensure a sufficient flow of water.

Packaged Air Conditioner Advantages
Energy Efficiency:
Depending on the brand and type of unit you install, you can expect an improvement in your energy bills. We can help determine the best energy-efficient option for your requirements.

Space Efficiency:
These units are a great option when you don’t have much space to work with as they are usually installed on the rooftop - leaving more space inside your commercial property.

Simple Maintenance:
As the components of the air conditioning unit are all located in one single location, it provides easy access and maintenance for us technicians. Saving your maintenance cost and time.
